Match report
Cloughjordan 2-1 Ballymackey
Cloughjordan hosted Ballymackey on Sunday and we’re looking to add more points to their tally this year. Having won the two previous games the lads were up for keeping the winning streak going.
The game started off very quick for Cloughjordan when Bryan Williams rose high over the Ballymackey player to header the ball down out of the air to Kev kennedy who was advancing in off the left and whipped the ball across to the back post where Dylan Delaney found himself perfectly placed to half volley the ball into the net. This put clough 1-0 up inside the first 3 mins.
A few minutes later Kalum Darcy who was playing left back superbly delivered a diagonal ball up the field to the far side of the pitch over the defenders where Dylan Delaney was running in again but was unfortunate to just place it narrowly wide.
On the 12 min some great combination played between Kev Kennedy and Shane Williams seen them beat the defender and Shane was able to slot it past the keeper to make it 2-0.
The rest of the half seen Cloughjordan pressing hard trying to increase their advantage but Ballymackey held firm and it was 2-0 going into the half.
Kev Kennedy had to come off at half time after injuring his ankle just before the end of the half but he had already contributed 2 assists with a fine performance before this.
Second half
Ballymackey came out looking to claw their way back into the game and were rewarded a few mins into the second half when they won a penalty which they duly fired home sending the keeper the wrong way. This provided Ballymackey with a way back into the game with the score now 2-1. The game progress with both teams looking for the next goal to change things but none came and Cloughjordan held out to gain the win and another vital 3 points.
Next week sees the lads welcome Birdhill to our pitch in what should be a a good game with both teams in the top half of the table.
