NT&DL Division 1
Cloughjordan 3-1 Borroway Rovers

On Sunday we hosted Borroway Rovers in Cloughjordan. The sides had met twice previously , once on the shield semi final and once in the league in their pitch. Both times Borroway came away with the win with scorelines of 1-0 in the shield and 2-0 in the league.  So the lads were looking to turn things around this time.

The game started with both teams having opportunities and it was a very open end to end game for the first half but neither side were able to break the deadlock. Borroway were using the pace of their Right winger a lot and looking to get him on the ball but Dylan Collins playing left back done a great job marking him throughout the game.

Halftime score 0-0

The second half got under way and cloughjordan were putting a lot of pressure on the visitors and  Cian Darcy was giving them a hard time on the Right Wing for us. On the 54 min mark Cian whipped a ball into the box from out wide and a mix up between the Borroway goalkeeper and the defender allowed the ball to fall into the path of Matt Phelan who with a poacher’s finesse slotted the ball into the back of the net to put us 1-0 up.

Borroway’s heads didn’t drop though and they  kept pushing for the equaliser. Michael hough in the cloughjordan goals made some great saves throughout the game to keep them out but unfortunately for him they managed to get one by him to make it 1-1.
Witor Dos Santos playing on the left for us was terrorising the borroway defence with his pace and skill on the ball but also with how quick he was to close them down and win possession back in Borroways half. He got reward for his fine performance by latching on to a flick on from Gary culbert to score his first goal for the Club. Cian Darcy and Liam Hannon were linking up really well and providing a constant threat down the right side and through the middle. They were unlucky not to score themselves.

Borroway kept pressing and tested our goalkeeper on a few occasions but 5 mins left to play and his first touch of the game after only coming on Tino Rotuani lifted a lovely little pass over the defender and into the path of Eoin Hogan who duly fired the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1.

Overall it was a great performance by the team. Next up for the lads is a home fixture against Borrisokane in the league next Sunday.
