Match Report 

Borrisokane  3- 2 CloughJordan 

Clough traveled the short distance to Borrisokane for our first league game of the season which was played in very windy conditions. 

There was a few half chances in the first 15 mins for both teams but it wasn’t until Roberth Menezes received the ball on the half way line and started to stride forward into the borrisokane Half when he released and effort from around 35 yards which floated beautifully over the keeper and into the net to put clough 1-0 up. 

The game continued back and forth between both teams and clough came close to doubling their lead from a corner high was deflected out for a second corner which again threatened but we were unable o take advantage. 

Borrisokane started to put some more pressure on the clough defence making use of the pace of their right winger which paid off on the stroke off half time when Ryan Donnelly  found the net to pull Borrisokane back level. 

Half time 1-1 

The second half started with Cloughjordan pushing for that goal to go ahead and they found it when Delaney Delaney showed some great skill to get around the defender near the end line and turn into the box where he played the ball across into the penalty area , where a bit of a goal mouth scramble occurred and elianderson silva was able to play the ball to Matt Phelan who duly finished the ball into the net to put us 2-1 up. 

 

Borrisokane were not out of the game yet though and their perseverance paid off when their midfield was able to claim the ball back from a Cloughjordan throw in and get the ball forward to Johnny Doyle who pulled them back level on 70 mins. They started to apply some more pressure to our defence and created a few more chances. 

With 10 mins to go in the match a defensive error in the box for cloughjordan turned into a goal mouth scramble which Ryan Donnelly popped up to slot the ball home to put borrisokane 3-2 up. 

 

Cloughjordan pushed hard to find an equaliser in the last stages of the game and had a couple of chances but couldn’t take them. 

It was a good team performance by Cloughjordan who were considered the underdogs going into this game.

Some notable performances from Cloughjordan were Dylan Collins , Gary Culbert and Dylan Delaney.
